Saturday October 14th saw the Seventh Annual RAF Kinloss Charity Texas Scramble at Forres Golf Club, sponsored by BAe Systems. The competition was open to personnel from RAF Kinloss and members of Forres Golf Club. Being a charity event, the emphasis was on enjoying the day whilst raising money for the CXX Squadron Crew 3 Memorial Fund, although as every sports person knows, there is no such thing as 'playing for fun'!

The weather was bright and warm with not a hint of a breeze meaning ideal scoring conditions for the 72 golfers taking part. The Texas Scramble format is ideal for groups of mixed abilities. Each group member has a tee shot at every hole with the team choosing which one to play next. Once the decision is made, all the players play their next shot from there and this continues until the hole is completed. The only constraint was that each player had to have four tee shots used.

With so many players the first tee was busy from 11.45am until 2.30pm, with people waiting and offering a friendly(ish) comment on people's swings which was also an ideal opportunity to sell tickets for the evening raffle. As well as the raffle prizes, there were competition prizes for 1st to 5th places and for the Nearest The Pin, all provided by Dave Thorne of BAe Systems, the KGS and from Sandy Aird at the Forres Golf Club Pro Shop.

The day was a great success and a grand total of £1191.59 was raised for the 120 Squadron Crew 3 Memorial Fund.

Many thanks go to all who helped organise the event, to Forres Golf Club for hosting the competition, to those who played and to those who made donations. The KGS hope everyone enjoyed the event and we look forward to your continued support in the future.

Once all the players were at the 19th, quenching a deep thirst and filling up on a superb buffet, the prizes were awarded as follows:

3rd Annual Texas Scramble on Friday 11th October 2002

On Friday 11th October 2002 an intrepid group of golfers from the Kinloss golf society, Forres GC and BAE systems took part in an end of season Texas Scramble at Forres GC. The aim was to raise some money for charity. Along with the golf was a small raffle to help raise funds. The KGS would like to thank everyone who donated a prize. ( Mike Holder, Sid Brown, Brian Fotheringham, Flicker and anyone else who's name I've forgotten, please e-mail me to correct this over sight.)

The KGS would like to thank Dave Thorne and BAE systems for sponsoring the event for the third year and hope this will continue in the future.

The weather behaved itself and proved much better than forecast. Not too much wind and only the occasional light rain to dampen the players enthusiasm. The contest was keenly contested with the first 6 teams separated by less than 2 shots.

Congratulations to the KGS, Dave Thorne, BAE and the members of Forres golf club in raising £300 for charity.
A big thank you to everyone who provided prizes and those who took part.

BAe Texas Scramble for Charity
Rules

1. Team Handicap. Teams of 3 players will be allowed one sixth of their combined playing handicaps. Teams of 4 players will be allowed one tenth of their combined handicaps. The resultant team handicap will be the exact figure obtained.

2. Mandatory Individual Contributions. In a team of 3 players each individual must contribute a minimum of 5 tee shots to the score. In a team of 4 players the minimum individual contribution is 4 strokes.

3. Ball Placement. After the chosen ball has been played the remaining team balls are to be placed as close to the same spot as possible, in a similar lie, but not nearer the hole. Balls in the rough, are to be dropped within one club length.

4. Substitute Balls. Only the chosen ball remains in play and is not to be moved or substituted unless permitted by the Rules of Golf (preferred lies are perms a on areas of ground at the same stance fairways). All other team balls may be substituted for expediency. Please do not waste time looking for lost balls.

5. . When putting, all other team balls that could effect the movement of the putted ball are to be marked and lifted.

Prize giving

6. The buffet will commence at 1800 hrs or when all players are in the bar, whichever occurs first. Sufficient time has been allowed for the last team to get around the course and clean up before 1800hrs. The prize giving will take place soon after.

THE KGS WISHES TO THANK BAe FOR THEIR KIND SUPPORT OVER THE LAST 4 YEARS.

BAE
